Where will you go? Who will you be with? How will you live?
Maybe you have been asking yourself these questions for years-so have I. Some months ago I found letters written in October and November of 1973 directed to my Father and Brother, pledging this: "I will prepare a way of escape for my family, for ancestors by genealogy, for the living with food, clothing and shelter. I will prepare a place for friends and family in as much as I have strength. I will not seek for the vain things of this world but for the things of the spirit that I may feed, clothe, shelter and care for those about me." Part of this pledge was fulfilled with the help of my father-in-law, Jesse Benson. In 1989 we bought 387 one acre building lots from Zion's Bank in the Indian Ridge Ranch in Indianola, Sanpete County, Utah. You are invited to explore the possibility of creating a new life for you and your family and loved ones by creating this community.
How will we live? Food production, part one.
Over the last several years I have become a fan of a small organic farm on the West side of Salt Lake Valley, Utah Natural Meats, home of Shayn and Kristen Bowler. This farm supplies the milk, eggs, meat, and cheese for several hundred families. What if we could do the same for our community? Issues to solve included obtaining greater water resources, cooperation from the property owners association and the architectural committee, and conforming to any zoning ordinances that might apply. Food production is essential for a self-reliant community and any efforts necessary will be well worthwhile. If necessary we can find acreage and resources nearby. Hopefully, under the tutelage of Shayn and family and under the management of motivated and experienced food growers, the community will have the best food possible, and the kids will grow up tending to the animals, gardens and green houses. |
Food production, part two.
No, this is not one of our green houses, yet. We are looking for new property owners that can bring expertise in permaculture, wallapinis, regular green houses, and other sustainable agricultural endeavors. Cooperation from the property owners and architectural committee will be necessary and additional water resources may need to be obtained.

What about schooling for our children?
Indianola will be the home of the Arkademy, where children and parents will gain the skills that will enable them to learn what it means to be alive, to survive, and to thrive, no matter what the future brings. Pioneer level skills are the foundation. The primary textbook is How We Live, by Fred Clark. |
Happiness comes from the unfettered, energetic doing of things we love with people we love.
